as a mom of two boys, it’s always fun for me to spend a day with a bunch of girls! this was one of those days! i got to go thru girl clothes and girl toys and just see what it’s like to live in a house full of estrogen!!

what an honor and a privilege to be able to photograph these three! this was my second session with them – well kind of, i also did mom’s maternity photos! both sessions were a ton of fun – mom is so cool (dad too!)

that’s what this baby was – a natural in front of the camera! he was so easy-going and sweet. maybe he gets it from his mom – who is so pretty she could have been a model (maybe she is and just didn’t tell me!)

mom likes with, dad likes without. so here’s a sneak of both. either way, one look at those blue eyes and you forget about the hat! by the look on little man’s face, you can tell which he prefers! enjoy the peek!

this sweet girl was so adorable with her big blue eyes!! her mom loves the hat she’s wearing and so do i! this is exactly what i mean when i say that color and texture look great in photos! don’t be afraid of color!!

this beauty was one of my oldest son’s first friends. i met her mom at a playgroup that had about 30 moms (no joke!). we happened to sit next to each other and as we started talking, we realized we had much in common. about a year after that we realized we were married in the same church in michigan – two months apart. needless to say, this family has become some of our best friends! it’s been so great to watch their beautiful girls grow – and we look forward to many more years!

i love when i meet someone and after talking to them you realize that you know some of the same people and go to some of the same places. i’ve known this mom for a few years through mutual friends, but she also knows my husbands’ family. i also recently found out that we like to vacation in the same michigan resort town. such a small world… when she asked me to photograph her little guy, who just turned one, i was thrilled! he is such a cutie – pretty serious, but we managed to catch a few smiles!

But, ssssshhh, don’t tell dad – these photos are a surprise!!

it’s all about the connection

it’s no secret that i love to take pictures of kids! all kids – babies, toddlers, preschoolers even teenagers. often, i’ll take shots of a family. to me, these can be a little more challenging, only because most people feel like they need to look at the camera and say “cheese” (that’s the worst). they just end up looking fake.

for me, family photos are best when they capture the connection that the family has. if a family is comfortable enough to let their guard down and just act natural – those are the best images.

this session was with a great mom and her one year old – who is just as sweet as he can be with those big brown eyes. these are the type of family photos that i love. these are the kind that i wish i had of me and my mom – how great would it be to look at these as an adult, or to show your children or grandchildren, even?
