Slow down! – Chicago Family Photographer

familyphotography

I’m feeling sappy today – and I’m not really sure why. I even made my kids let me take their photos before they went off to school, as if it were the first day of school. (to be fair, though, I am taking a class so I was practicing some new techniques.) When I sat down to write this post and I started looking at these images of this sweet family, it really made me think of time and how quickly it goes. Could I be anymore cliche? But, man, is it true.

Before I meet a family

Mommy and me – Chicago Family Photographer

familyphotography1

Sessions when mom gets in the photos are my favorite types of sessions! True story.

Isn’t mom always the one who is the family historian? Always taking photos of everyone else, but not getting in the photo herself? I’m guilty of this too – once my son and I were flipping through family vacation photos from when he was very little. He turned to me and asked, “Mom, were you on this vacation?” Wow!! That was an eye opener. I tell moms who are a little reluctant to get

Hold the Cheese! – Chicago Kid Photographer

_SBP0711

I’ve been going thru photos as I prepare for a website re-vamp. I came across this little sweetie and the non-smiling image really caught my eye. Kids don’t always want to smile for photos – and that is OK! Personally, sometimes I like the non-smiling photos better and I’ll take non-smiling over fake smile any day of the week! Another reason why I will never ask a child to say “cheese!” What I will do is some pretty silly things to elicit a real smile from a

Perks of my job! – Chicago Newborn Photographer

newbornphotography

I love all the rolls and folds, all the sweet little toes, all the smiles when they are sleeping (what on earth are they thinking?) and I love seeing the looks the parents give – as if they never realized they could feel this way about another person – especially one so tiny!

Ah! The perks of being a newborn photographer!

What a day with Gigi’s Playhouse! – Chicago Portrait Photographer

Gigisblog

In honor of World Down Syndrome Day, I’m posting images from the day I had a few weeks ago with some of the amazing people at Gigi’s Playhouse in Chicago.

In 2013, Gigi’s approached me to take the photographs that currently (but not much longer!) appear on their windows. Recently we collaborated once again to update the windows since Gigi’s expanded and have even more windows to cover with beautiful faces! Below are just some of the photos that were taken that day &#8211

Sitting up!!! – Chicago Baby Photographer

family

Sitting up sessions are some of the best sessions!! Babies smiling, parents laughing, so much fun to be had! When babies are around 6 months old, I always recommend that families wait until their baby is sitting up solidly on their own to schedule their photo session. All babies are different, but the majority are doing so by about 8 months. It’s worth the wait to wait until this milestone! These sessions are much different than newborn sessions in that the baby is smiling, their personality
